Welcome to the place where
all my stories begin
I'm R.M. Gray — an author from Texas who writes magical, mysterious, fantastical stories where not everyone is who they seem to be, monsters lurk around every corner, and there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
My days are powered by mac & cheese, the scent of bluebonnets in the spring, too many cartoons (can you watch too many cartoons? Asking for a friend), and endless cups of Earl Grey. I live with my husband — my favorite fellow nerd and partner in all things content — and our two giant dogs, Archimedes and Merlin, who are my convinced they are the official guardians of the universe.
I write because I'm still chasing that feeling you get when you watch a good movie and want to go sliding down the theater railing. I write because I want to face my fears — and conquer them. I write because I believe that stories are the closest companions we have — they sit with you in waiting rooms and parking lots, on crowded flights and in empty apartments, and they connect us all in ways that only stories can. And I write for readers like you, who journey through these worlds with me as friends.

I've been writing for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories of telling stories include notebooks full of Neopets fanfiction, and a DIY book I wrote and illustrated for my sister as a last minute Christmas gift.
On a Friday the 13th in October of 2023, I self-published Nightweaver. I had no idea what I was doing, or what to do next, but as I celebrated in a back room with my family and a few close friends, I thought, "this is it! I'm living my dream!" It was exhilarating, and terrifying, and it was worth every bridge I had to cross along the way.
When I got an email from a literary agent who had seen Nightweaver on google and wanted to offer me representation, I thought I was being scammed. (Spoiler alert: it wasn't a scam!) Soon after that, I got the call that my dream publisher wanted to publish not only the first book, but the rest of the trilogy.
After years of rejection, disappointment, and hard work, my book became an instant New York Times, Indie National, and USA Today Bestseller, and I sobbed harder than I did the first time I watched Bridge to Terabithia.
My mom always said that my books will go places I've never gone (thanks, mom!) and now they have! From translations and audiobooks to messages from readers who live in places I've only ever dreamed of visiting, this story I thought no one would ever read has crossed oceans — and introduced me to new friends from all over the world.
So, what's next? Well, I did say I love a good mystery, right? The universe is ever expanding, and there's exciting new things on the horizon. I can't wait to continue on this adventure with all of you.
Worked at Spirit Halloween, which absolutely influenced the haunted vibes of my books.
Obsessed with Scooby-Doo, which explains my love of mysteries and unmasking things.
I am a second degree black belt in Taekwondo, and love choreographing fight scenes.
Gamer at heart — RPGs, cozy games, anything with quests and magic.
I’ve tucked more fun facts about myself behind them. Little secrets make the world more magical, don’t they?
From Pokemon and Yugioh cards, to lightsabers and movie posters, special editions of my favorite books and manga, Funko pops and comics, my house is a museum of all the things I love.
Dedicated watcher of horror movies, anime, and period pieces. Ask me about Ghost Ship, Tokyo Ghoul, or Little Women and I will never stop talking.
I'm a self-proclaimed expert at whistling. My friends and family love this about me.
(They don't have a choice.)
Especially during late-night writing sprints. I also love a good throwback playlist, classic rock, music from my favorite Disney films, and when all else fails, there's always opera!

I almost gave up once. After years of chasing my dream, I thought, "maybe I'm not cut out for this." But I decided to keep going, and that decision changed my life.
